Bovine tuberculosis and brucellosis are two of the most important diseases of livestock and emerging diseases in wildlife in South Africa but testing facilities able to provide adequate diagnostic services are scarce. The Department of Veterinary Tropical Diseases recently obtained SANAS accreditation and Government approval and opened its doors to provide the following diagnostic services to clients:

  • Bovine brucellosis serology in cattle (Rose Bengal Test and Complement Fixation Test)
  • Bovine tuberculosis culture (any species)

As an accredited laboratory our clients are assured of quality diagnostic services according to the highest international standards, i.e. the International Standard ISO/IEC 17025 ensuring technical competency and the use of internationally recognized and validated methods.

The laboratory welcomes sample submissions of small and large batches of samples at competitive turnaround times. Electronic sample submission forms are available for serology and bovine tuberculosis culture. For more information including diagnostic fees times please send an email to janita.greyling@up.ac.za or pamela.wambulawaye@up.ac.za.
