FREESTATE ANIMAL HEALTH FORUM CPD EVENT-2017-09-21

On the 21st of September the Freestate Animal Health Forum CPD Event was hosted in Bloemfontein at the Leopards and Lace Venue.

The Freestate AHF was represented by the RPO, Freestate Department of Veterinary Services, Private Veterinarians, CCS Vets, Farmers, Production Industries.

 

The Freestate AHF hosted their quarterly meeting in the morning where various agenda points were discussed regarding:

  • Diseases
  • Fences
  • Veterinary Strategy
  • Disease reports
  • Provincial issues
  • Brucellosis as model
  • Domestic/Game animals interface
  • Vaccine availability
  • Fences
  • Identification of animals
  • Movement of animals
  • Welfare issues
  • Drought

The chairman of the Freestate AHF Nelius Ferreira opened the CPD event and welcomed the members to the CPD he was pleased with the CPD points raised and looked forward to a positive outcome from the event.

 

The Chairman of the NAHF informed the Freestate members on the on-goings of the NAHF and what has been achieved regarding the various committees which have been established through the NAHF with DAFF.

 

Dr Didi Janse van Rensburg (On behalf of Freestate Veterinary Services Director Dr Kristan Mojapelo) gave an overview of the province regarding disease control and animal health.

 

The Onderstepoort Biological Products representative Dr Jacob Modumo informed the members of the Brucellosis as a model and the vaccination with Strain 19 and RB 51. Dr Chriche du Plessis from MSD informed the members on the testing for Brucellosis and the vaccination fro Brucellosis. She further gave the members opportunity to panel their questions.

 

 

 

Dr Didi Janse van Rensburg informed the members on the Brucella melitensis and BMC in Game study they did whereby she additionally also allowed for the discussion after her talk. She in turn had additional feedback for questions asked earlier in the day on Cryptosporidium and E.coli witnessed in some farms.

 

Prof Moritz van Vuuren informed the members on the Bacterial Resistance to Antibiotics and Antibiotic Stewardship. He gave the members opportunity to discuss the topic in an open forum after the presentation.

 

The day was closed of with some refreshments with the attendees.
