The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and its partners under the project on “Sustainable business in animal health service provision through training for veterinary paraprofessionals” is organizing a Public and Private Multi-Stakeholder Platform (MSP) workshop on the 4th of December 2023 from 8h30 – 16h00 at Kopanong Conference Centre in Benoni, Johannesburg.
Considering the new regulations permitting Animal Health Technicians (AHTs) to provide primary animal healthcare service for their own account in South Africa, the FAO and its partners is currently training 50 Unemployed AHTs from the North West and Eastern Cape provinces to establish their own Primary Animal Health Care businesses.
The MSP workshop will present an opportunity for the project team and the four priority leads selected during December 2022 MSP meeting to outline the update on progress and achievements from priority leads workplans. It will also provide a chance for Veterinary Statutory Body, Chief Veterinary Officers, State-owned entities, academia, private sector, professional groups, pharmaceutical companies, etc. to discuss the possible areas of collaboration and opportunities for the AHTs in the private and public sector.
